etcd im Überblick
etcd ist ein verteilter Key-Value-Store, der als konsistenter Cluster-Speicher dient — Kubernetes nutzt es als zentrale Datenbank für den gesamten Cluster-Zustand. Das CNCF-Projekt veröffentlicht regelmäßige Releases; als Fundament der Cluster-Verwaltung ist die Absicherung und ein sorgfältiger Betrieb entscheidend.
Für Admins ist etcd meist Teil eines Kubernetes-Setups und wird über dessen Updates gehoben; bei eigenständigem Betrieb gilt: Updates rollierend über die Cluster-Mitglieder unter Wahrung des Quorums, vorher ein Snapshot. etcd gehört ins interne Netz mit aktivierter Client- und Peer-TLS-Authentifizierung — ein offener etcd legt den gesamten Cluster-Zustand offen. Regelmäßige, getestete Snapshots sind der zentrale Schutz, da ein Verlust der etcd-Daten den ganzen Cluster verlieren lässt.
