Packer im Überblick
HashiCorp Packer automatisiert das Erstellen von Maschinen-Images für VMs und Cloud — es baut aus einer Vorlage reproduzierbare Images für verschiedene Plattformen. HashiCorp veröffentlicht regelmäßige Releases; wie bei Terraform liegt die eigentliche Komplexität in den Plugins (Buildern und Provisionern).
Für Admins ist die Packer-Core-Version meist unkritisch, spannender sind die Plugin-Versionen, die eigene Zyklen haben und gepinnt gehören. Wer von der ZIP-Distribution auf Paketmanager wechselt, hält die Version leichter aktuell.
