Podman im Überblick
Podman ist eine daemonlose, weitgehend Docker-kompatible Container-Engine — im Red-Hat-Umfeld der Standard, weil sie rootless und ohne privilegierten Hintergrunddienst läuft. Das Projekt veröffentlicht regelmäßig Releases; Sicherheitsfixes betreffen wie bei jeder Container-Runtime gelegentlich die tieferliegenden Komponenten.
Für Admins ist der rootless-Betrieb ein Sicherheitsgewinn gegenüber einem root-Daemon. Updates kommen über die Distribution; die meisten Docker-Befehle funktionieren via Alias identisch. Beim Wechsel von Docker lohnt der Blick auf Unterschiede bei Netzwerken und der systemd-Integration (Quadlet). Für Multi-Container-Setups gibt es podman-compose bzw. Kubernetes-YAML-Support. Die eingebettete crun/runc-Version bei kritischen Ausbruch-Advisories im Blick behalten.
