Rust im Überblick

Rust ist eine Systemprogrammiersprache mit Fokus auf Speichersicherheit — Basis wachsend vieler Infrastruktur- und Sicherheitswerkzeuge. Das Rust-Team veröffentlicht alle sechs Wochen eine neue Stable-Version; die Toolchain (rustc, cargo) wird über rustup verwaltet.

Für Admins ist Rust weniger ein betriebenes Produkt als eine Toolchain in Build-Pipelines. Der schnelle Sechs-Wochen-Takt bedeutet häufige, meist unkritische Updates; Breaking Changes sind durch das Editions-System selten. Sicherheitsfixes (auch in der Standardbibliothek oder in cargo) sollten durch Anheben der Toolchain in CI und Images eingespielt werden. Aus Rust kompilierte Binaries tragen die zur Build-Zeit genutzten Abhängigkeiten in sich — bei Advisories in Crates hilft ein Neubau mit aktualisierten Abhängigkeiten (cargo audit unterstützt dabei).
