Velero im Überblick
Velero (von VMware Tanzu) ist das verbreitete Werkzeug für Kubernetes-Backups — es sichert Cluster-Ressourcen und persistente Volumes und stellt sie bei Bedarf wieder her, auch für Migrationen zwischen Clustern. Das Projekt veröffentlicht regelmäßige Releases; als Backup-Werkzeug ist Verlässlichkeit entscheidend.
Für Admins ist die Kompatibilität zwischen Velero, der Kubernetes-Version und den eingesetzten Plugins (Objekt-Storage-Provider, CSI-Snapshots) wichtig — die Matrix beachten. Updates spielt man durch Austausch der Velero-Komponenten ein; nach dem Update einen Test-Restore einplanen, denn ein Backup, das sich nicht wiederherstellen lässt, ist wertlos. Die Zugangsdaten zum Backup-Ziel (S3 o. ä.) gehören geschützt, das Ziel idealerweise unveränderlich/append-only gegen Ransomware. Regelmäßige, geplante Backups und getestete Restores sind der eigentliche Wert. Die eingesetzte Version und ihren Supportzeitraum im Blick behalten.
