2FAS Authenticator at a glance

2FAS Authenticator is an open-source app for time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) on Android and iOS. It produces the second factor for accounts that offer no hardware-bound method, and can be paired with a companion browser extension. Encrypted backups to the device's own cloud, plus import and export of secrets, make it a practical choice where staff manage their own MFA tokens.

The app is maintained continuously; the Android and iOS editions ship separately and carry their own version numbers, which do not stay in step. Distribution runs through the app stores, or through Managed Google Play and MDM in managed fleets.

When updating, the backup state matters most: before larger jumps, make sure a valid, decryptable backup and its password exist, otherwise the stored accounts cannot be recovered if the device is lost. Also re-check the browser-extension pairing and the app's access protection afterwards. If you recommend the app internally, document the recovery path.
