ASUS DriverHub at a glance

ASUS DriverHub is a Windows utility that detects the drivers installed on supported ASUS mainboards, lists matching updates and installs them on request. On many systems it sets itself up automatically at first Windows boot through a UEFI option, which is why it shows up in workstation inventories without anyone having installed it deliberately.

For system administrators the tool is mainly a hardening topic. It runs a local background service that accepts requests coming from an ASUS website; in the past the origin check of that service could be bypassed, allowing a crafted web page to launch programs with elevated privileges. If the functionality is not needed, uninstall the software and turn the automatic setup off in UEFI.

The vendor does not publish a central, machine-readable version overview: updates come through the program's own update function and through the model-specific support and download pages. If you deploy the tool deliberately, check its state manually on a regular basis and follow the vendor's security advisories.
