AutomatedLab at a glance

AutomatedLab is an open-source PowerShell framework that provisions lab and test environments in a largely automated way. A few lines of script produce a single virtual machine or a multi-tier environment with domain controllers, SQL Server, Exchange, or other server roles, running either on local Hyper-V or in Azure. Administrators use it to build repeatable scenarios for training, migration testing, or reproducing incidents.

The project is maintained as a PowerShell module and distributed through the PowerShell Gallery and its source repository. New editions appear frequently and, alongside bug fixes, regularly adapt to changed operating-system and product versions that the labs build up.

When updating, watch for interactions with existing lab definitions and with the virtualization platform in use. Anyone running it in earnest should test a new edition against a known lab configuration before rolling it out widely, because default paths and supported roles can change between editions.
