Checkmk is a comprehensive monitoring platform (from tribe29/Checkmk, Munich) for infrastructure and applications, available as Raw and Enterprise editions. Checkmk ships regular releases plus patch versions; as a monitoring system with broad visibility, it deserves hardening and timely updates.

For admins updates run through the site management (omd); back up the site before larger jumps and read the werks (change notes), since check plug-ins and rules can change. Multiple sites and versions can coexist on one server, which eases staged upgrades. The web interface and the monitored systems' credentials make it security-relevant — keep it on the management network behind authentication. Verify checks and notifications after updating.
