Cisco Secure Client at a glance
Cisco Secure Client combines several security modules in a single endpoint agent, including the AnyConnect VPN client, components for zero-trust access, and features for network visibility and endpoint protection. For administrators it is the component that connects laptops and mobile devices to the corporate network while enforcing policies from central Cisco systems such as the Adaptive Security Appliance, Firepower, or the Identity Services Engine.
Cisco maintains the client in staggered release trains and ships maintenance and security releases alongside them. The version in use often depends on the head-end, because gateway systems provide or permit the package. In many environments the client is pushed automatically, but it can also be packaged through software distribution tools or a standalone installer.
When updating, administrators should review the module selection, operating-system compatibility, and configuration profiles, since individual modules are enabled separately. Security advisories for this client frequently concern local privilege escalation or VPN handling, so applying approved releases promptly is advisable.
