CrowdStrike Falcon at a glance

CrowdStrike Falcon is a cloud-based security platform that protects endpoints, servers, cloud workloads and identities. A sensor runs on each machine, collects telemetry and sends it to the Falcon cloud. There, analytics and threat intelligence evaluate the data, and administrators manage policies, detections and response actions from a central console. Typical uses include endpoint detection and response, vulnerability visibility and defence against attacks on Windows, macOS and Linux systems.

Two update paths should be treated separately. The sensor itself receives new builds, which sensor update policies control. There, administrators decide whether devices follow the current build automatically, stay one or two releases behind on purpose, or are pinned to a fixed version. Detection content updates are independent of this and follow their own settings.

When updating, a staged rollout helps: start with a small test group covering different operating systems and kernel levels, then widen it. Before operating system and kernel updates on Linux servers, check the installed sensor version for compatibility. Review the policies regularly so that no group is left behind or updated too early.
