OPNsense Business Edition is the commercial variant of the firewall and routing distribution developed by Deciso. It shares its foundation with the Community Edition but follows its own, deliberately delayed release branch: features and fixes move into the business series only after a maturing period. On top of that come commercial add-on components and a support entitlement tied to the subscription.

The release rhythm has two layers. A new series appears roughly twice a year, with patch releases in between carrying bug fixes and security updates for the embedded base components. Business Edition version numbers run separately from Community Edition numbers, so the two branches cannot be compared directly.

Take a configuration backup before every update, and on high-availability pairs mind the order in which nodes are upgraded. Plugins are tied to the core version and are the usual stumbling block, so move core and plugins together. After updating, verify VPN tunnels, firewall rules and interfaces. Access to the business package repositories requires an active subscription; without it a host simply stays on its current level.
