Dell Command | Update (DCU) is used by system administrators to keep BIOS, firmware, drivers, and select Dell applications up to date across fleets of Dell business clients (Latitude, OptiPlex, Precision, XPS). The tool automatically identifies the system and matches it against Dell's update catalog so that only applicable packages are offered. Besides the GUI, a command-line interface (dcu-cli) is available, which integrates well with deployment tools such as SCCM or Intune for large-scale rollouts.

New versions are released irregularly, typically several times a year, accompanied by release notes covering feature additions, bug fixes, and updated dependencies such as required .NET runtime versions. There is no official RSS feed or API for release announcements; administrators need to check the release notes pages on Dell's support portal manually.

When updating, administrators should verify compatibility with the specific hardware model, check the required .NET runtime version, and watch for changes to CLI parameters used in automation scripts. Since Dell has already discontinued older product lines (classic Dell/Alienware Update), it is important to confirm which variant (classic vs. Windows Universal) is deployed in the fleet to avoid running unsupported, potentially vulnerable software.
