D-Link DSR-250V2 at a glance
The DSR-250V2 is a VPN router with a firewall for small sites and branch offices. It connects the local network to the internet, terminates IPsec and SSL VPN tunnels, separates networks by VLAN and filters traffic with firewall rules and content filters. It is managed through a web interface.
For devices of this class, firmware releases matter for security because they contain services reachable from the internet, such as the VPN portal and the management interface. D-Link maintains several hardware revisions of the DSR-250V2 with their own packages and issues hotfix images alongside regular releases; the regional download pages do not always show the same release.
Before updating, check the hardware revision and export the configuration, since an update can reset settings. All VPN connections drop during the reboot, so the change belongs in a maintenance window. The management interface should not be reachable from the internet.
