Ente Auth at a glance

Ente Auth is an open-source authenticator for time-based one-time codes with optional end-to-end encrypted backups tied to an Ente account. For administrators it is an option when second factors need to be available across several devices while the secrets must stay unreadable to the provider. Clients exist for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux and the browser, and importing from other authenticator apps is supported.

The app is published from Ente's shared monorepo and carries its own version line, independent of Photos, Locker and Ensu. Releases appear regularly and typically bundle improvements to the interface, import, search and synchronisation.

When updating, one rule matters most: export the codes before larger jumps, because an authenticator becomes the bottleneck for every login the moment it fails. In managed environments, fix a single distribution channel and update path so devices do not fall behind, and rehearse restoring the encrypted backup at least once.
