IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) at a glance

The IGEL Universal Management Suite is the central management layer for endpoints running IGEL OS. Administrators use it to distribute profiles, firmware images and configuration to thin clients and repurposed PCs, to group devices by site or role, and to control access from outside the corporate network through gateway or reverse-proxy paths. It runs as a server service in the customer's own data centre or as a vendor-hosted variant.

IGEL publishes new UMS builds on a regular cadence. Version numbers combine a major branch, a release and a maintenance level, and each build gets its own release notes in the public knowledge base.

When updating, order matters: the UMS server is upgraded before the managed endpoints, and the device firmware in use has to match the server build. Preparation should include a backup of the UMS database and a check against the stated database, Java runtime and operating system requirements. Distributed installations with several UMS servers, load balancing or high availability need a coordinated sequence so that consoles and servers do not end up on different builds.
