KillerNotes at a glance
KillerNotes is a lightweight Windows note-taking tool aimed at system administrators and field technicians. Instead of juggling dozens of open Notepad windows, it provides a searchable, encrypted notes database with full-text search, rich-text formatting, inline images and tables, and links between notes. The entire database can be password-protected with AES-256 encryption (SQLCipher), which is particularly relevant for sensitive information such as credentials or network diagrams. Individual notes can be exported and shared as standalone, optionally password-protected files.
The project is maintained by a single developer as open-source software and shipped as a portable single-file executable for 64-bit Windows 10/11. Releases appear irregularly, bundling both new features and bug fixes; there is no fixed release cadence.
When updating, administrators should check whether the database format or encryption parameters have changed between versions and create a backup of the encrypted notes database before major updates. Since this is a small community project without an established support channel, it is advisable to regularly check the release page manually for security notices or breaking changes.
