MEGAsync at a glance
MEGAsync is the desktop client for MEGA, the New Zealand cloud storage service, available for Windows, macOS and Linux. It keeps selected local folders in two-way sync with the account, runs one-way backups, and provides a browser for the remote storage. On managed workstations it usually arrives as user-requested software that still has to be tracked for patch level.
Releases are cut per platform: every build ships as separate packages for Windows, macOS and Linux, distinguishable in the release stream by their per-operating-system markers. The cadence is several builds a year, with short-notice fix releases in between whenever changes to the underlying MEGA SDK make them necessary.
Two things matter when updating. The client carries its own self-updater, which can collide with central software distribution in managed estates — let one of the two lead, or package and self-update will keep overtaking each other. And avoid updating in the middle of an active sync run, because interrupted transfers are renegotiated after the restart and generate noticeable load on large folder trees.
