MeTube puts a lightweight web interface in front of the yt-dlp downloader, making it usable without the command line. Self-hosters typically run it as a container on their own network to queue up video and audio from YouTube and many other sites, set preferred formats and drop downloads into tidy folders.

The project's releases are closely tied to yt-dlp: when sites change how they serve content, new editions are needed so that downloads keep working. Unlike many programs, its versions are not sequential numbers but dates, so updates appear frequently and should be applied promptly.

Because MeTube depends on a current yt-dlp build, it is one of those applications where regularly watching for new editions really pays off. The release notes record which underlying components were bumped and whether any settings have changed.
