Microsoft Edge at a glance

Microsoft Edge is Chromium-based and the default browser on Windows, common across managed fleets. Microsoft follows the fast Chromium release cadence — frequent stable updates plus out-of-band security builds when Chromium flaws are fixed.

For admins Edge inherits Chromium's fixes quickly and is well suited to central management: the built-in updater keeps standalone installs current, while the enterprise MSI and ADMX policies control updates, features and extensions. Keep the patch window short — browsers are a top attack surface. Restrict extensions to a reviewed allowlist via policy, and manage sync/telemetry deliberately. Edge and Windows update paths are separate, so don't assume patching Windows updates the browser.
