Moodle is the world's most widely used open-source learning-management system, running courses for schools, universities and organizations. For admins the LTS line is the right base, with defined support windows — track the end-of-support date and plan upgrades, since running an unsupported Moodle is a serious exposure. Moodle publishes security releases on a schedule — apply them promptly, since it holds personal and often sensitive educational data. Updates run database upgrades — back up the database and moodledata first, and test on staging.
