NetScaler ADC at a glance
NetScaler ADC is an application delivery controller that distributes and secures application traffic between clients and servers. It handles load balancing, SSL/TLS offloading, content switching, caching and compression, and provides secured remote access as NetScaler Gateway. Its integrated web application firewall along with bot and API protection also shields exposed services. It runs as a physical appliance or as a virtual instance.
The firmware ships in maintained release tracks with feature and maintenance builds; in parallel the vendor publishes security bulletins that administrators should follow closely. Because NetScaler is a frequent attack target, critical flaws are often actively exploited, so applying builds promptly is important.
Before updating, take a configuration backup and check high-availability pairs, cluster nodes and licensed features for compatibility. After serious security issues, also terminate active sessions and rotate credentials, since a firmware update alone does not invalidate tokens that were already stolen.
