Nightscout Menu Bar is a small open-source program that displays blood sugar readings from a self-hosted Nightscout instance directly in the macOS menu bar, or in the notification area on Windows and Linux. Nightscout itself is a self-hosted application people use to collect their CGM data; this menu bar tool is a thin client for it, configured with the address of the user's own server and an access token.

The project is written in Go and maintained on GitHub. Releases appear at irregular, fairly wide intervals and follow semantic versioning; each publication ships prebuilt packages for the supported operating systems, and installation through common package managers is offered alongside.

For managed rollouts, note that the application stores credentials for a private health data source, so tokens do not belong in shared configuration files. Because the project has not yet reached a stable major version, the configuration format and available options can change between minor releases; reading the release notes before updating is worthwhile.
