OBS Studio at a glance

OBS Studio is an open-source application for recording and live-streaming screen content, camera feeds and audio. You build scenes from sources such as windows, monitors, cameras, microphones and media files, then switch between them during a session. In companies it is used for training videos, documenting workflows, internal broadcasts and capturing web conferences; it runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and is frequently deployed as a managed application on workstations.

The project publishes larger editions several times a year and follows up quickly with correction builds when recording or streaming defects surface. Graphics drivers, codecs and community plugins are tied closely to the specific edition in use.

Before rolling an update out, back up profiles and scene collections and review the plugins you depend on, since these often need adjusting after a jump to a new major edition. Afterwards, test a real recording using your production settings, because defaults for encoding and output can change between editions.
