Obsidian is a popular knowledge-base and note-taking application that stores notes as local Markdown files, favoured for private, self-controlled note-keeping. Obsidian ships frequent releases; the built-in updater keeps it current.

For admins Obsidian is a user-space app storing local files, modest in security terms, but two things deserve attention: community plugins run with significant access (they can read your vault and reach the network), so in sensitive environments curate a trusted set or use restricted mode; and if using the paid Sync, understand where your notes are stored. Keep it current for fixes, and source it officially. The local-file model is a privacy strength — your notes stay on your machine unless you sync them. New versions bring editor and plugin-API improvements. In managed environments, set a plugin policy. Patchletter surfaces new Obsidian releases.
