Royal Server at a glance

Royal Server is the server-side component of the Royal Apps product family. It sits between the Royal TS and Royal TSX clients and the managed systems, providing secure tunnelling for RDP, SSH and VNC sessions, execution of PowerShell and WMI queries, access to Hyper-V and VMware inventories, and a central document store for shared connection documents. Workstations therefore no longer need direct network reachability to every target.

The vendor maintains a major line over a long period and ships releases within it that carry bug fixes, additional modules and adjustments to changed management interfaces. Client and server versions are matched to each other, so an older client will not necessarily work against a newer server build.

Because the service is network facing and brokers both credentials and live sessions, it belongs in the higher update priority tier. Back up the configuration and the document store before updating, then review the certificate and the enabled modules before bringing the clients to a matching level so that modules and protocols keep lining up.
