Royal TS at a glance

Royal TS is a connection manager for Windows that gathers remote desktop, SSH, VNC, Telnet, web and database sessions, plus terminal and PowerShell access, into a single interface. Connections live in folder structures with inherited settings, credentials are managed separately from the connections themselves, and connection documents can be shared across a team via file shares, supported password vaults or the matching Royal Server. It has a strong following among administrators in German-speaking countries who manage large numbers of targets.

Within a major line the vendor ships regular builds containing fixes, refreshed protocol libraries and smaller feature additions. Major upgrades are licensed separately and occasionally change the document format, after which older installations can no longer open newer documents.

Before updating, establish whether a document upgrade is involved and whether everyone sharing that document can follow; back up shared documents first. Since the tool stores credentials and opens sessions to privileged systems, apply builds carrying refreshed RDP or SSH libraries promptly — those embedded components are the usual route by which vulnerabilities reach the product.
