RustDesk is a popular open-source remote-desktop tool and a self-hostable alternative to commercial remote-access software. RustDesk ships frequent releases across its client and self-hosted server plus security fixes; as remote-access software with system-level reach, keeping it current and locked down matters.
For admins the priorities are prompt updates and tight access control. If you self-host the relay/rendezvous server, keep it current and secured, and set strong access keys so only your clients connect. Keep clients updated and enforce a minimum version, since outdated remote-access clients on personal devices are the classic weak spot.
