Sigil at a glance
Sigil is an open source editor for EPUB e-books. Alongside near-WYSIWYG editing it gives direct access to XHTML, CSS and metadata and can validate book structure. In companies and educational institutions it shows up wherever documentation, training material or publications are produced and maintained as EPUB; IT packages and deploys it as an ordinary desktop application for Windows, macOS and Linux.
The project is developed on GitHub and publishes its builds there with signed installers plus an AppImage for Linux. The rhythm is irregular: feature releases are often followed shortly by correction builds that fix problems in the previous one.
When updating, note that Sigil ships its own Qt and Python environment, which also hosts plugins; any plugins in use should be checked for compatibility after an upgrade. Older operating system versions occasionally drop out of support, so workstations on an older platform may have to stay on an earlier build.
