The Snow Inventory Agent for Windows is a client component of the Snow Inventory platform (now part of Flexera, formerly Snow Software). It runs as a service on Windows endpoints and servers, scanning installed software, hardware components, and usage data, then transmitting the results as so-called snowpacks to a central Inventory Server. System administrators in software asset management use the agent to consistently capture license inventories, compliance status, and cloud instances.

New versions are released irregularly through feature and maintenance updates, documented by the vendor in continuously numbered release-notes chapters per major version. Updates frequently include changes to scan behavior, performance optimizations for file and registry scans, and occasionally security fixes for known agent vulnerabilities.

When updating, administrators should verify compatibility with the deployed version of Snow License Manager or Snow Atlas, since new agent features sometimes require a minimum server component version. It is also worth reviewing changes to configuration files such as snowagent.config, as formatting requirements for environment variables and scan settings can change between versions. Testing on representative systems before a broader rollout is advisable.
