Sonarr at a glance

Sonarr is a self-hosted application for automating TV series collections. It monitors configured indexers and feeds, downloads new episodes through connected download clients, and then handles sorting, renaming and library maintenance. In IT environments Sonarr is typically run as a container or as a service and managed through a web interface.

New versions are released frequently and at short intervals, with separate stable and develop branches and continuous build numbers. Updates include bug fixes, adjustments to indexer and download-client integrations, and occasionally larger changes to the database and runtime. A built-in update mechanism can apply updates automatically; in container setups the update is done by pulling a new image.

When updating, administrators should back up the configuration and database beforehand, since migrations across major jumps are not backward compatible. It is also worth checking requirements of the underlying runtime and the compatibility of connected clients. Those using the develop branch should expect more frequent, less thoroughly tested releases.
