The Sonos desktop app is the control client for Sonos multiroom audio systems on Windows and macOS. It lets administrators set up speakers on the local network, combine them into groups and connect them to streaming services or a local media library. In environments with several devices it serves as a central interface for managing playback, zones and basic settings without a mobile device.

The vendor ships the application as an installer for both platforms and releases new builds at irregular intervals, alongside the device software. Updates bring new features, compatibility with newer speakers and bug and security fixes; the app and firmware levels are closely tied to each other.

Before updating it is worth checking whether older devices are still supported, because the product lines are maintained in separate app generations. Since app and firmware need to match, the update should ideally be applied on all controlling computers together, to keep operation consistent across the installation.
