Sumatra PDF at a glance
Sumatra PDF is a resource-friendly document viewer for Windows. Besides PDF, the application also opens ePub, MOBI, XPS, DjVu, CHM as well as common comic-book formats and image files. Its focus is on fast startup, low memory usage and an uncluttered interface; a portable edition runs without installation straight from a removable drive.
Development is open source and takes place on GitHub, where new stable builds are published as releases. Between stable versions, pre-release builds appear regularly for testers. Updates bundle bug fixes, security patches for the embedded rendering libraries and occasional feature additions; switching versions usually works simply by replacing the program file.
When updating, administrators should distinguish between the installer and portable variant as well as between the 32-bit, 64-bit and ARM64 build, since these are maintained separately. In managed environments it is worth checking customised settings files and the default file-type associations, which a reinstall can overwrite. Pre-release builds do not belong in production.
