Synology Drive Client is the desktop application that lets users synchronize files and folders between their computer and the Synology Drive service on a DiskStation. It is the client-side counterpart to the Synology Drive Server package and provides selective synchronization, backup of individual folders and access to centrally stored files without going through a browser. For sysadmins the client is part of a self-hosted alternative to public cloud storage, keeping data on the organization's own NAS.

Synology maintains the client separately from the server package and offers it in the download area as a platform-specific installer; new builds appear regularly and often fix security-relevant issues as well. Because the client and server carry their own version numbers, both should be updated in a coordinated way where possible.

Before rolling out a new client version, it is worth checking the release notes for changes to synchronization behavior and keeping the version consistent across all workstations, so that folder syncs run reliably and without conflicts.
