Surveillance Station Client is the standalone desktop application administrators use to access Synology Surveillance Station, the video management system that runs on Synology DiskStation devices. Instead of going through a browser, the client connects directly to the NAS and combines live view, playback of recorded events and management of connected cameras in a native interface. In small and mid-sized networks this combination of NAS and client is one of the most common camera recording systems, because it works without a separate video server.

The client is maintained separately from the server package and distributed through Synology's download area as a platform-specific installer. Because the server and the client carry different version numbers, sysadmins should check compatibility between the Surveillance Station version installed on the DiskStation and the client version when updating.

Before updating it is advisable to review the release notes for changes to supported camera models and to playback, and to keep the client consistent across all workstations so that live view and export work reliably.
