Tailscale at a glance

Tailscale is a popular mesh VPN built on WireGuard, connecting devices into a private network with minimal configuration. Tailscale ships frequent client updates across platforms plus coordinated fixes; as connectivity software with network reach, keeping clients current matters.

For admins the client can auto-update, and managed fleets push it through software distribution — keep a minimum version enforced. The security model rests on your identity provider and the ACL policy (tailnet policy file): review who can reach what, use tags and least privilege, and enable key expiry. Features like subnet routers and exit nodes widen reach — configure them deliberately. Because Tailscale coordinates through its control plane while traffic stays peer-to-peer, keep both the clients and the policy current. After updates, verify connectivity and ACLs.
