Trayscout at a glance
Trayscout is a lightweight Windows client for Nightscout: it pulls readings from a self-hosted Nightscout instance and shows the current value and trend as an icon in the notification area; a click opens a history chart. The program is configured through an INI file holding server URL, API secret, refresh interval, unit, display style and alarm thresholds.
In managed environments the tool ends up as a small desktop application on individual clients and is maintained through software distribution. It is an open-source project run by a single developer on GitHub; builds appear irregularly and with long gaps, each carrying change notes and ready-made archives attached to the release.
When updating, the configuration deserves the most attention: newer builds add options for the chart, the style or the alarms, so an existing INI file should be merged rather than blindly overwritten. There is no built-in updater, so rollout has to be triggered actively. Close running instances before replacing files, otherwise the old build stays active in memory.
