Windows Terminal is Microsoft's modern, open-source terminal application for Windows, hosting PowerShell, Command Prompt, WSL and SSH sessions in tabs. Microsoft ships regular releases; the Microsoft Store and winget keep it current.

For admins Windows Terminal is a user-space application, modest in security terms, but as the front end to shells and remote sessions it's worth keeping current for fixes and features. Updates are usually smooth. In managed environments it can be deployed and updated through the Store for Business or winget, and its settings (profiles, default shell) can be managed via the JSON configuration or policy. New versions bring rendering and profile improvements. It runs with the user's rights, so its risk profile matches the account and the shells it launches. Track releases so features and fixes aren't missed.
