WireGuard for Windows is the official client for the lean, modern WireGuard VPN on Windows machines. The project ships updates in an unhurried cadence; the core cryptographic design is deliberately small and auditable.

For admins the client is straightforward, and the real security lives in key management: the private keys and the tunnel configuration (AllowedIPs, peers) determine who can reach what, so protect the configuration and keys. Updates are usually low-risk; keep the client current for fixes and Windows compatibility. WireGuard offers no built-in key rotation or central management out of the box — for that, overlay tools (Tailscale, NetBird) build on it. For direct, lean tunnels, the WireGuard client is a solid foundation; secure the configs and keys.
