restic im Überblick

restic ist ein schnelles, verschlüsselndes Backup-Programm mit Deduplizierung — beliebt, weil es plattformübergreifend läuft und viele Backends (lokal, S3, SFTP, REST) unterstützt. Das Projekt veröffentlicht Releases in moderatem Takt; das Repository-Format ist über Versionen hinweg sehr stabil.

Für Admins ist restic angenehm wartungsarm: Updates sind meist unkritisch (Binary tauschen), das Backup-Repository bleibt kompatibel. Wichtiger als das Update ist die Betriebsdisziplin — regelmäßige Integritäts-Checks, getestete Restores und eine sichere Aufbewahrung des Repository-Passworts, ohne das die Backups verloren sind. Als Backup-Werkzeug gilt: unveränderliche bzw. append-only Backends und getrennte Zugangsdaten schützen vor Ransomware, die gezielt Backups löscht.
