Apple Bonjour at a glance
Bonjour is Apple's implementation of Zeroconf for Windows. The service discovers devices and services on the local network via multicast DNS, such as printers, AirPlay receivers or shared media libraries, and is installed alongside iTunes, printer software and other programs. It runs as a Windows service in the background and opens UDP port 5353 for this purpose.
Apple updates Bonjour rarely and usually only together with programs that ship the service.
In managed environments, Bonjour often appears on workstations unnoticed. If you do not need the service, remove or disable it; this reduces multicast traffic and attack surface. If it is needed, keep it up to date and configure the firewall so that mDNS is only reachable on the local network.
