Comet at a glance

Comet is a Chromium-based browser from Perplexity that builds search and an AI assistant directly into the interface. The assistant reads the open tab, summarises content and can carry out tasks inside signed-in web applications. For administrators, Comet is primarily one more managed endpoint client: it runs on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, offers a silent installer for mass deployment and can be steered through the usual Chromium policies via MDM.

Update behaviour follows the Chromium model: the client updates itself and applies the change on the next restart. Perplexity ships feature changes at a fast cadence and documents them collectively in its own changelog rather than as a per-platform version list.

When updating, pay attention to the underlying Chromium base, since security fixes from the Chromium project reach derived browsers with some delay. The assistant features deserve the same scrutiny: because the agent touches page content and existing sessions, policies for extensions, data egress and permitted automation should be defined before rollout and reviewed again after updates.
