ConnectWise Automate at a glance
ConnectWise Automate is a remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform that system administrators and managed service providers use to centrally monitor, patch, and remotely control endpoints, servers, and networks. Agents deployed on managed systems allow automated script execution, software distribution, patch deployment, and alerting when issues occur. The product is available both as an on-premise installation and as a cloud-hosted offering.
The vendor regularly publishes patch and feature releases between major version jumps, communicated through a dedicated documentation site with release notes. In addition to the core product, Solution Center extensions and plugins receive their own changelogs, which should be tracked separately when planning updates.
When updating, administrators should pay particular attention to dependencies on the underlying database and to supported Windows server versions, since older operating system or database versions are deprecated over the product lifecycle. Because the software has deep system access to managed endpoints, security updates should be applied promptly to close known vulnerabilities in agent communication. On-premise operators should also ensure encrypted communication channels between server and agents are enforced.
