Ensu at a glance

Ensu is Ente's on-device AI application: the language model is downloaded to the machine and runs there, so prompts and attachments never leave the device. For administrators this matters wherever staff want a chat assistant but cloud services are ruled out for privacy or confidentiality reasons. The app is available for Windows, macOS and Linux as well as Android and iOS, with desktop builds shipped in formats such as AppImage, DEB and RPM.

Ensu is published from Ente's shared monorepo and carries its own version line, separate from Photos, Auth and Locker. The project is still young, so releases follow each other closely and both feature set and model selection keep changing noticeably.

Two things deserve attention when updating: the model download is separate from the application and consumes additional disk space, and memory and compute requirements depend on the selected model. Before rolling it out through software distribution, test it on representative hardware and check which data the app stores locally.
