GLPI at a glance

GLPI is a widely used open-source IT service management and asset-inventory platform, common for helpdesks and CMDBs. GLPI ships regular releases plus security fixes; as a web application holding asset, user and often credential data, hardening and timely updates matter.

For admins updates run through the web installer or CLI and include database migrations — back up the database and files first, and read the upgrade notes, since plugins are the usual compatibility stumbling block. GLPI has had security advisories, so apply security releases promptly. Keep it off the open internet behind authentication and TLS, and keep the underlying PHP supported. Plugins extend GLPI significantly but carry their own updates and risk — vet and update them. After upgrading, verify login, tickets, inventory and plugins. Track the version and its support window; patchletter surfaces new GLPI releases.
