Apache Guacamole is a widely used open-source clientless remote-desktop gateway, providing RDP, VNC and SSH access through a web browser. Guacamole ships regular releases plus security fixes; as an internet-facing gateway into internal systems, hardening and prompt patching are essential.

For admins Guacamole is a high-value target — it brokers remote access to internal machines — so keep it current, behind TLS and strong authentication (two-factor, ideally SSO), and never expose it carelessly. Updates involve the web application and the guacd daemon, which should stay in step; back up the configuration and database first, and read the release notes. Guacamole has had security advisories, so apply security releases promptly. After upgrading, verify that connections launch and authentication holds. Restrict which internal hosts it can reach. Track the version and its support status; patchletter surfaces new Guacamole releases so security fixes aren't missed.
