Java (Eclipse Temurin) at a glance

Eclipse Temurin is a widely used, free OpenJDK build (from the Adoptium project) — the Java runtime under many server applications and build pipelines. Adoptium ships quarterly updates aligned with the OpenJDK security schedule, across the LTS lines (8, 11, 17, 21 …) and interim releases.

For admins the runtime version is usually dictated by the application it runs. Security fixes (including in the JVM, TLS and the class libraries) should be applied promptly by moving the JDK/JRE in servers, containers and CI. Pick an LTS line for production and track its support window. Multiple Java versions often coexist — keep clear records of which app uses which, and test application and native-library compatibility before moving a major version.
