Visual Studio Code is Microsoft's ubiquitous, open-source code editor, on countless developer and admin machines. Microsoft ships monthly feature releases plus occasional patch builds; the built-in updater keeps standalone installs current, and managed fleets deploy the system installer via software distribution.

For admins VS Code itself is low-risk (a user-space app), but the extensions are where attention is due: they run with the editor's privileges and can reach the file system and network, so in sensitive environments curate a trusted set and consider the restricted mode. Updates are usually smooth. New versions bring editor and remote-development improvements. Keep it in the patch cycle, watch for outdated copies on shared systems, and manage extension policy where the organization requires it.
