LibreNMS is a widely used open-source network monitoring system with autodiscovery and broad device support, popular in homelabs and SMBs. LibreNMS ships frequent (often rolling) releases plus security fixes; as a monitoring system with credentials and network visibility, keeping it current and hardened matters.

For admins LibreNMS commonly runs in a rolling-update mode (daily), pulling changes automatically — convenient, but back up the database and configuration and mind the required PHP/Python and database versions. It holds SNMP and device credentials, so keep the web interface off the open internet behind authentication. After updates, verify that polling, discovery and alerting still work — silent alerting failure is dangerous. The many device integrations should be checked after larger changes. Track the release channel you follow; patchletter surfaces new LibreNMS releases so security and feature fixes aren't missed.
