Netdata is a popular open-source, real-time monitoring tool with per-second metrics and an auto-generated dashboard, common on servers and in homelabs. Netdata ships frequent releases plus security fixes; as an agent with broad system visibility, keeping it current and access-controlled matters.

For admins the agent can auto-update, which keeps it current with minimal effort. The attention point is exposure: the dashboard reveals a lot about a system, so don't expose the agent's port to the internet — put it behind authentication or use Netdata Cloud's access controls, and bind it to the internal network. Updates are usually smooth, bringing new collectors and fixes. Collectors that reach into databases or apps use credentials — protect the configuration. After updating, verify that dashboards and alerts still work. Track releases so features and security fixes aren't missed.
